Spice Overload

While we lived in Omaha, I discovered Penzey's Spices. Up until then, I've primarily used McCormick spices or store brand. Since I've been cooking more over the past couple of years, I've started to notice the slight difference in the spices, plus some are over 5 years old. So, this morning I went through all of my spices and updated the outdated ones and ordered other spices my collection is missing. This little task resulted in a bill of $100 on spices! To my credit, I ordered 30 different spices, so it's only a little over $3 bucks a spice, but it still adds up!

The Exile of Sara Stevenson

The Exile of Sara StevensonThe Exile of Sara Stevenson by Darci Hannah

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I have such mixed feelings about this book. I absolutely loved the first 3/4 of the book, and then I felt it became a little too far-fetched and at one point forced. It's hard to say much without giving away the book. I really enjoyed Hannah's writing and I thought this was a great first novel. I really wish I could have given this 4 stars, but the last 1/4 of the book did it in.

Lowered Expectations

Last week I had a horrendous week. I was overworked and exhausted. Knowing how stressed I was, I tried working out, but then I got home even later and slept even less. Instead of helping me feel better, it was another stressor. As much as I like working out and know all of the benefits of it, I'm giving myself the permission to put it on the back burner. Right now, sleep and time with my husband is more in important. I have to admit, having one less expectation on my part is making my week a little more relaxing.

Halo

HaloHalo by Alexandra Adornetto

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

It's probably more of a 2.5. I loved the cover, but the plot ended up being really drawn out and the main female character wasn't independent enough for more.

89 hours...

I survived. I cried. I screamed. I cried some more. I worked 89 hours this week and I survived.
